What romance means to me.

The caress of her cheek,  the flowers that arrived for no reason. The day spent with a young girl whose mother your trying to impress.

Fixing someone dinner because you can, not because you have to. Sitting in a comfortable silence and speaking volumes. Talking for hours and not saying anything.

Watching the man your falling in love with care for your child. Having him care enough to argue with you, and still be willing to hold you.

Holding you. Does not mean rushing you to bed. While pretending to care.

Romance and Love manifests itself So old or new romance never goes out of style.

Past American Christian Fiction Writers Conferences.

This weekend the AMERICAN CHRISTIAN FICTION WRITERS CONFERENCE was held in Dallas. It would have been my third one of these to go to. But because of a lifestyle change it was not possible for me to go this year.

So here is my blog on my previous experience at these events.  My first conference was at Indianapolis. A great experience. I went to classes by Tracie and Jim Peterson and Kaye Dacus.

Rachelle Gardner taught me enough about a fifteen minute pitch to get my manuscript asked for by Mary Sue Seymour. She ended up passing on the manuscript but taught me what to expect. “She told me that publishing takes a long long time.” Those words are forever burned in my memory.

I met James Scott Bell and have bought everything he has out on writing. Jeff Gerke’s book “How to write Christian Fiction.” sits on my bookshelf as well.

I had my first critque done by Jill Williams, which provided my first real professional encouragement.  When I walked in I was nervous and scared, Brandlyn Collins and Debby Mayne offered encouragement to a first writing that was seriuosly thinking about giving up writing. “Thank you Debby for that two and a half hour mentoring session. You are a gracious lady for taking that time with me.”

Cara Putman took time to pray with me before my first agent meeting with Terry Burns. “Thank you Cara. You have a precious little boy.”

Mr. Terry Burns you are joy , you helped a first time writer and taught her so much in just a few short minutes. You were also kind to let me talk with you at last years conference. Wish I could have been there to say hello this year.

There are others that I can’t begin to name them all Keli Gwyn, Joyce Hart, Tamela Hancock Murray, Steve Laub,

I can only Thank you for all your help and pray I will see you back in Indianapolis next year.  You have all helped me become a published author.Along with christian fellowship that is often so needed.

Blessings

GOD BLESS AMERICA

I am AMERICAN. AND MAY ANY BODY WHO DOESN’T LIKE IT. TAKE A FLYING FLIP.

I AM ALSO A CHRISTIAN I WILL PRAISE GOD, I WILL SAY JESUS AND THE DEMOCRATS CAN TAKE ANOTHER FLYING LEAP OR DEAL WITH IT.

THIS COUNTRY HAS LOST SIGHT ON THE FACT THAT THIS NATION WAS BUILT BECAUSE OF PERSECUTION. WE LEFT ENGLAND BECAUSE THE KING TRIED TO TELL US HOW TO WORSHIP.

NOW OUR OWN GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO TAKE GOD AWAY FROM US AGAIN.

STOP THEM IN THERE TRACKS. VOTE NO TO THE DEMOCRATS. GIVE THEM A MESSAGE THAT WE WILL KEEP OUR RIGHTS TO WORSHIP ANYWAY WE SEE FIT.

Religion, Spirituality and George Washington

Today my son and I got to talking about the above picture and quote from George Washington. Some of the things I believe in and some of the things he believes frequently bang head on like a couple of big horn sheep. bearing this in mind (I am going to make some comments that may get me thrown out of the American Christian Fiction Writers.) BUT I can not and will not let this one slide.

So this is my rebuttal or logic. Jason on the text from today. When the above quote was written roughly some Two hundred and thirty-six years ago. George Washington was not describing the all-powerful church. He was talking guidance for the leaders that was coming forth to lead a new nation. (Yea go read the preamble of the Constitution again.) He was talking about using the teachings of our Lord as a way of setting guidelines of right or wrong. Keeping each of us on what should have been the straight and narrow when dealing with the circumstances of right or wrong.

“Old I can not tell a lie,” George Washington believed not in the political commentary between two factions, or what the different churches thought about something. He was talking about what you try to teach your daughters, what all parents try to teach their children. RIGHT FROM WRONG, Sovereign nation, and Freedom.

You made some good points to-day (Here is where I may get kicked out of my ACFW.) about how religion try to be controlling. You know for a fact that I believe in the Lord. I believe in the spirituality of the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am not a regular church goer mainly because I haven’t found a Religion (the proper formed church that has the right to tell me what I can and can’t do.) Now I am not putting down any said religion. If one person gets one iota of something out of it that puts him on the right track to a better life. He can worship at the Church of the Holy Purple People eaters for all I care.

To this day I do not feel that any one group, any one faction, has the right to tell me what I believe in.(That includes you Jason) I also don’t believe that a Catholic Priest should or can tell people how they should live in their marriage when the said Priest hasn’t ever been married. (Hey if the Catholics want to trust the guy that’s their business.) Organized religion has its place in a lot of people’s lives. I’m all for that. Just not in mine at the moment.

I personally got saved by going through a really rough time and listening to a Gaither Vocal Band Cd. I asked our Lord Jesus Christ for help and he entered my life. I did go on to a church and was baptized. I continually fight day in and day out to keep the spirituality and Joy that I received from that particular instance. I don’t find the peace and joy sitting in a room full of opinionated people who continue to try to tell me how I should be living my life. When those same up righteous people are out on Saturday night getting drunker than I ever thought about getting.

The people who truly believe in our lord Jesus and all his teachings use their Spirituality to teach. but not by cramming their opinions down people’s throats. I guess Jason what I’m trying to say is the Religion is controlling the Spiritualism of it isn’t.

The point of gay marriage will be fought over and over again, just as abortion will, just as the slavery was. (Yeah I know but go read the emancipation proclamation speech of President Abe Lincoln) and we will have a whole new can of worms to open and argue over.

To quote one more time.
“May God Bless us everyone.” Charles Dickens (The Christmas Carol)

Writing it brings people together.

The old saying that “You can never have to many friends.” still holds true in my humble thoughts. Let me explain. Because of my writing I went to last years ACFW conference, which in turn, made me become much closer to Our Lord Jesus.
It led me to such super people as Debby Mayne who sat and talked with me the first day for over two hours. Leading me to think of her as a friend an mentor. She introduced me to Brandilyn Collins who also sat and encouraged me. She sat and talked to one nervous first timer during a luncheon making me feel apart of group.
In turn I sat in Tracie and Jim Peterson’s Basic writing class. I learned a lot about the basics of writing and even more about the research that goes into writing from talking to Jim afterward. Thank you to both of them for being so kind to me. Last year and at this years conference it was great talking to both of you at this years. (Jim thank you for the Prayer.)
In last years second day of Tracie’s class she brought in James Scott Bell to answer a question. ( for the life of me I can’t remember what the discussion question was.) Even though I didn’t get to talk with him at last years conference. I have talked to James Scott Bell several times since threw the magic of Twitter and I owe him a thank you also for helping me through a couple of rough spots. I appreciate the time he has taken to answer questions. (His books are wonderful for answering questions.)

I also went to Kaye Dacus’s class and on the Saturday Evening waiting for my husband to pick me up. She managed to get through to me that the knowledge we gain at Conference has to fit our own writing for it to work. some will and some won’t but if glean a single kernel from a class you have it made.
Rachelle Gardner who was giving the class about a sixty second pitch( maybe that was the elevator pitch.) Rachelle taught me enough in the 30 minutes before I left for a pitch. That walking into the pitch made it easier.

Cara Putman I met the morning before my first ever pitch. She took time to pray with me. She took a terrified woman and got me to buck up for the appointment.

Terry Burns who helped me get through a pitch that was the wrong book and taught me how to put on a facade to hide your fears and nervousness. He gives some great advice in his book A Writer’s Survival Guide to getting Published.
Mary Sue Seymour- she was the first to ask for my manuscript even though she turned it down. She did tell me to resubmit something else. She got me to asking the right questions on what was wrong with my projects.

Edwina Cowgill, Tricia Goyer, Jenny B. Jones and Keli Gwyn and many others who have continued to encourage me, They may consider me an conference aquaintances, but to me they are friends all.

Blessings to all my friends in the ACFW.
