Writers – Strange Little Birds

Writers are a unusual little birds. They work in the day and at night. They live in their imagination. They bring out their pent up frustrations from childhood and make them come to life as if nothing ever happened. A completely frustrating day that would make most people go on the rampage like a mailroom worker standing on a water tower with an automatic weapon. A writer takes it and uses it for fodder in their story. HOWEVER in their minds–The female protagonist may still be on top of the water tower making the Hunky Hero climb to the top to keep her from jumping (in his mind). He gets to the top to find out that she is waiting for him with water pistol full of green beer because it’s St. Patrick’s Day.

Writers look at life through a different eye. Where people will see nothing but stopped traffic for miles due to a car wreck. Writers see the bridge out so the traffic can’t move and they see a huge Semi-truck with a huge snowblade pushing them over the edge into a pile of marshmallow fluff.

Writers handle story conversations as they are going into town by talking to themselves. You begin to realize that you have sat at a stoplight for ten minutes because you’re having a fight with the man of your book. Once you get it worked out and figured how everything is going to work. The story is perfect, but you come to realization you don’t have a clue where you going or what you were supposed to be doing.

Yes, we as writers are strange little birds, That’s why we wear t-shirts that say,

“Be careful or you’ll end up in my next Novel”

  1. Gee, you mean that other people have the problem of multiple thoughts working themselves out in their minds while doing other things? Now I don’t feel quite as weird. Yes writers might be strange little birds, but I think that is true of any creative person.

  2. It’s nice to have the ability to have such a vivid imagination but then able to put those images onto paper
